Meet the Amazon ‘influencers’ making money off everything they own
“Amazon’s army of side-hustlers turns to video reviews of kettle bells and rubber duckies for cash”
Here are the key points of the article:
Amazon Influencer Program: Launched in 2017, it allows regular people to promote products and earn commission on sales.
No large social media following required: Unlike traditional influencers, participants only need a social media account and an Amazon product to review.
Earning commission: Influencers can earn money through videos posted on their social media or directly on Amazon's site ("shoppable videos").
How it works: Influencers apply with a social media account, get accepted, and can start promoting products. For shoppable videos on Amazon's site, they need to submit samples for approval.
Commission rate undisclosed: The amount of commission influencers earn is not revealed by Amazon and can vary depending on factors like video placement.
Unpredictable earnings: Influencers can see their videos replaced by others with no explanation, leading to fluctuating income.
Finding products to review: Influencers use various strategies to find products, including filming items they already own, borrowing from friends or family, or buying new items.
Running out of products: Finding enough products to review is a common challenge for influencers.
Ethical considerations: Some influencers bend the rules by reviewing products they don't own or filming in inappropriate locations.
Risk of getting banned: Amazon can ban influencers for violating its terms of service, leading to loss of income and videos.
Competition: The program is becoming increasingly crowded, with influencers competing for views and commissions.

In the following video by UpFlip, Bobby Samai shows us his relatively big operation called ionBottles. This operation started as dropshipping and then moved to a warehouse model. The dropshipping part was only used for testing. Once he found something that worked, he started using a warehouse service that stores and ships his products. He orders a lot of product from China who ships them directly to his warehouses.
I’m guessing that Bobby wants to sell because ion water is not proven to provide any benefits. Although, there may be anecdotal stories of benefits.
